2. Statement of Accounts

Treasurer Mike Hillier presented the Statement of Accounts for 2016-17 and copies were made available for those present.   It was noted there was no prize money this year and John Clarke asked if there could be some discussion at the first committee meeting to try and find a way to generate some prize money.  Dave Cooper asked about sponsorship from Abbey Taxis and it is not anticipated there will be any problem with them continuing to support the league for the next 12 months.    Ray Potbury proposed that the statement be accepted, this was seconded by Tina McClurg and carried unanimously.

3. Any Other Business

Before the proposal was considered, the chairman informed the meeting that it is anticipated that 11 teams will be entering the Winter League, including the Egerton Arms in Brook Street who confirmed today that they will be entering a team for the forthcoming season.        The teams will be Bawn Lodge, Egerton Arms, Olde Cottage, Royal Oak, St. Theresa's, St. Werburgh's, Spital Vaults, Talbot, Union Vaults and United Services.   In addition, it is anticipated the "Cross Foxes / Royal Oak B" will be entering, but as yet they have not confirmed where they will be playing from.   The league will start on Wednesday, 18th October 2017 and break for Christmas after games played on Wednesday, 13th December 2017.   League games will resume on Wednesday, 3rd January 2018, and all games should be completed before Chester Races which start on Wednesday 9th May 2018.

The chairman confirmed fees for the coming season will be the same as last year, namely £50 for entry to the League, £2.50 each to enter the Northgate Cup and West Cheshire Shield and £4 to enter the 351 Competition.    The 5-a-Side competition will be free to enter, and Singles and Doubles will remain at £1 and £2 respectively.   The Veterans competition will also remain free to enter for anyone aged 65+.

Proposal

One proposal was received this year, and a notice and voting form has been in all pubs and clubs for some time.  The chairman read out the proposal received from Mike Hillier on 30th August, namely "For the AGM, I propose that each team has at least 1 nominated person on the Committee.".

Four votes were cast before the AGM, 3-1 in favour (Bawn Lodge, Cottage, St. Werburgh's for, Egerton Arms against).     Some brief discussion took place where it was felt it was generally a good idea, but teams could not be forced to nominate a committee member if they did not wish to do so.    At the meeting, the Talbot and Royal Oak A decided to vote "for", St. Theresa's and the United Services chose to abstain, and no vote was received from the Royal Oak B, the Spital or the Union Vaults, making the final votes 5-1 in favour with 5 abstains/no votes.    The chairman will inform each club of the voting outcome and invite teams who do not already have a committee member to nominate someone.

There was no other business raised so the Chairman thanked everyone for attending and closed the meeting at 8.45pm when the buffet was declared open.   Thanks go to Dave Burrows and Adam Wallace at Bawn Lodge for  providing the excellent food and for hosting the AGM / Presentation.
